When editing horror films the editing is crucial as the timing and length of the clips could change the atmosphere that the audience feels. If a sense of urgency is needed we will need to use quick cutting and fast pace clips to make the audience believe that everything on screen is rushed in panic. However, for our film we will need to use extended clips which makes the audiences anticipation to grow. This is because the longer that a clip is on screen, the more likely the audience expects change.
This is a short clip from the film of The Woman in Black. This shows some examples of elongated clips when he hears noises and goes upstairs to check the door. As the clips become shorter there is a change and the audience gets shocked when the door opens.
